Computer Fair at Terrigal
It's a test of patience. I'm still waiting, a month after the screen stopped working, for my laptop to be fixed.
Meanwhile, it could well be time for me to visit a local computer fair. A pentium 3 desktop on which to run Gentoo and start exploring Python could be what I need for now.

I'm was in a similar situation.
I bought a P3 that is limited to PC100, wherev PC133 is currently much cheaper.
Gentoo pre-builts were available for d-load at ibiblio.org, but they don't seem to be there today (updating??) I ordered mine succesfully, but have yet to do more than memory checker (second 128 is flakey.)
Knoppix also ships w/ Python. :-)
