A Cognitive Understanding of Pair Programming
What really happens inside the brains of developers when they are pair programming?
I was interested to read Laurent Bossavit report favourably on a presentation by Sallyann Bryant at XP2004 entitled "Dynamic duos: Towards a cognitive understanding of Pair Programming". She is researching this area as part of her PhD thesis.
As one who has mixed feelings about the practice and benefits of pair programming, I will be very interested in her findings. And it will be good to see the results of research rather than conjecture about this emotionally charged topic.
