Webbing the Surf?

I've always envied surfers. Real surfers, that is, out there in the surf riding the waves expertly on their boards. I've often thought it would be a refreshing way to enjoy nature without the intrusion of modern technology.

Then today I read about an internet-enabled surfboard. Call me old-fashioned, but I reckon that's bizarre!
