No Pokies at Souths
South Sydney may be out of the running for the NRL premiership but their co-owners are leading the way in the social responsibility stakes.
This morning the news comes that whilst the NSW government is allowing gambling to spread further from clubs to pubs, Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court have requested that the Souths Leagues Club reopen in 2008 without poker machines.
As the recent ABC Four Corners program showed, gambling on poker machines in NSW has had tragic consequences. Hopefully the Souths board will back this bold initiative to show that clubs can be profitable and socially responsible.

Well I'm definitely going to see Russ's new movie then. He's not as bad as they all try to make out.
